LUX* Belle Mare fronts two kilometres of the east coast's finest beach, on the stretch between Belle Mare village and Palmar. Belle Mare beach is among Mauritius's most photographed, a broad arc of white sand backed by casuarina trees with a calm turquoise lagoon extending several hundred metres before the reef. The resort is approximately 50 minutes from Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport by road. The village of Belle Mare, with a handful of local restaurants and convenience stores, is a short walk north.
The property was comprehensively redesigned around 2010 when LUX* Resorts rebranded from Sun Resorts, and the renovation gave the hotel its current identity: vibrant rather than traditional, with commissioned artwork from Mauritian artists, a rooftop observatory, a beach cinema, and a specialty coffee bar sourcing direct-trade beans. The main building is white low-rise architecture with terracotta accents, integrated into the beachfront so that most rooms face the sea directly.
