Hell's Gate National Park & Lake Naivasha
Hell's Gate is the only national park in Kenya where you can walk and cycle freely among wildlife including giraffe, zebra, warthog and buffalo. The dramatic gorge, geysers and geothermal steam vents are otherworldly. Combine with a boat trip or horse ride on Lake Naivasha and a visit to the Elsamere conservation centre (Joy Adamson's former home).

Lake Nakuru National Park
Lake Nakuru is famous for massive flocks of flamingos that turn the lake pink, though numbers vary by season. The park is also an excellent rhino sanctuary — both black and white rhino are often seen here. Lions, leopards and the endangered Rothschild's giraffe also inhabit the park.

Amboseli National Park

Ol Pejeta Conservancy

Mount Longonot Hike
One of the most exhilarating day hikes from Nairobi, Mount Longonot's volcanic crater rim offers dramatic views over the Great Rift Valley and Lake Naivasha. The 3-4 hour hike to the summit and around the crater rim is achievable for fit hikers.

Masai Mara — Bush Camp Overnight
The world-famous Masai Mara is technically a day trip by air from Nairobi, though most visitors stay overnight. The reserve offers the best big cat viewing in Africa and, during July-September, the Great Wildebeest Migration. Flying in for a full day's game drive is possible but expensive.
