Photography Tips

Golden hour (first and last hour of sunlight) is essential for the Citadel, Roman Theatre, and hill panoramas — the warm light on the limestone is extraordinary
Use a polarizing filter for photographing the sky against the white limestone buildings — dramatic contrast
Always ask permission before photographing individuals — most Jordanians are happy to be photographed if asked respectfully
Carry a wide-angle lens for the panoramic hilltop views and a 50mm or 85mm for street portraits
The Citadel is technically closed after sunset but a respectful conversation with security can sometimes gain you special access for blue hour shooting
Do NOT photograph military installations, police checkpoints, or government buildings — this is illegal
Winter and autumn offer the clearest air for distant photography — summer haze can reduce visibility on panoramic shots
The Friday Morning Market on Rainbow Street provides excellent documentary photography opportunities with colorful vendors and animated social scenes
Photography Etiquette
Respect local customs while capturing memories.
