Plan your trip with detailed weather information and seasonal tips for Amman.
Amman is Jordan's dynamic capital city, a fascinating blend of ancient history and modern urban life set across a dramatic hillside landscape. The city is home to Roman ruins, vibrant souks, world-class restaurants, and a thriving arts scene, making it one of the Middle East's most compelling destinations.
Best Time to Visit
Best Months
March–May and September–November
Spring and autumn offer the most pleasant temperatures (15–25°C/59–77°F), ideal for sightseeing, day trips, and outdoor activities without the summer heat. Spring sees wildflowers across the surrounding hills and excellent visibility for photography.
Months to Avoid
January–February
January and February are Amman's coldest months with temperatures dropping to 4–7°C (39–45°F) and occasional snowfall. While the city remains functional, sightseeing is less comfortable and some outdoor sites see reduced hours.
Climate Overview
Amman has a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters. The city sits at approximately 800–1,000 meters elevation, making it significantly cooler than Jordan's lower regions — including the Dead Sea and Aqaba — which can be brutally hot in summer. Summer days reach 32–36°C (90–97°F) but cool pleasantly in the evenings to around 20°C (68°F). Rainfall occurs almost exclusively from November to April, with the wettest months being December to February.
