Ito-Yokado Kofu Showa is a large hypermarket-style superstore in Showa Town on the outskirts of Kofu, functioning less as a tourist shopping destination and more as a practical stop for groceries, everyday clothing, and household items during a longer Yamanashi stay. The supermarket floor stocks fresh produce, prepared foods, and packaged Yamanashi specialty items such as regional sake, wine, and snacks at prices generally lower than souvenir-shop equivalents, while upper floors carry clothing, home goods, and a food court with casual dining options. As a national retail chain rather than an independent market, goods are consistently branded and nationally distributed rather than artisanal, though the grocery floor is a genuinely useful source of Yamanashi food products to take home at everyday prices. Prices are fixed throughout, and payment is overwhelmingly by card or IC card, with cash also accepted. There is no tax-free counter for everyday grocery purchases, though qualifying purchases of clothing or larger goods can sometimes be processed tax-free depending on total spend. A car or taxi is the most practical way to reach the store, as it sits outside Kofu's central walkable core.
