Megumi

Megumi is a small yakitori counter in Kawaguchiko town where the entire experience centers on the binchotan charcoal grill running the length of the bar. Chicken skewers — thigh, skin, tsukune (chicken meatballs), and seasonal vegetable skewers — are grilled to order over the white charcoal, which burns hotter and cleaner than standard charcoal and gives the chicken a smoky exterior while keeping the meat notably juicy inside. The room is compact, with counter seating facing the grill and only a couple of additional tables, so most guests order in rounds and watch the skewers cook rather than browsing an extensive printed menu. Drinks lean toward beer, shochu, and a short sake list chosen to complement grilled chicken rather than a wide-ranging cocktail program. Closed on Wednesdays, Megumi otherwise keeps standard evening hours and draws a mix of local regulars and visitors staying near the lake; because seating is limited to roughly a dozen guests, arriving by 18:30 improves the odds of a counter spot on weekend nights.
