Yamaguchi Prefecture occupies the westernmost tip of Honshu, where the Sea of Japan and the Seto Inland Sea nearly meet across a narrow peninsula. It is best known for the vivid red torii tunnel of Motonosumi Shrine, the preserved samurai streets of Hagi, one of Japan's three finest wooden bridges at Kintaikyo, and Shimonoseki, the country's capital of pufferfish (fugu) cuisine facing the Kanmon Strait.
