Iwase Port Town & Sake Brewery Walking Tour

The Iwase Port Town & Sake Brewery Walking Tour is a self-guided route through Toyama City's historic Iwase district, mapped out by the Toyama City Tourism Association and free to follow using signage and the tram line as a spine. The route runs along the Toyama Port Line tram tracks, beginning at Iwasehama Station and ending roughly 15-20 minutes later on foot at Higashi-Iwase Station, tracing streets once home to Kitamae-bune trading ships and sake merchants. Three stops anchor the walk: Saseki, the standing-tasting bar operated by Masuda Shuzoten sake brewery, pours through close to 100 varieties of its Masuizumi label by the glass or flight; KOBO Brew Pub occupies a converted Meiji-era rice storehouse and serves its own craft beers alongside pub food; and Otsukaya, a long-running confectioner, sells triangle-shaped dorayaki pancakes filled with red bean paste. The free Toyama Port Observation Deck near the harbor mouth caps the walk with views over fishing boats and, on clear days, the Tateyama mountain range across the bay. Because the tour is self-guided, there is no fixed group, no set start time, and no language support beyond signage and each venue's own staff; visitors move at their own pace and pay for tastings and snacks individually as they go, typically ¥0-2,000 total depending on how much is sampled. There is no bundled meal or transit ticket included, though the Toyama Port Line tram, a short flat-fare ride, can shorten the route between stops. Dietary substitutions are not applicable since food is bought a la carte at each stall; travelers with allergies or who avoid alcohol can simply skip the sake tastings and stick to the brew pub's food menu or the dorayaki stop.
