Hotel Kazurabashi

Hotel Kazurabashi is a mountain ryokan in the Nishiiyayama district of Miyoshi, positioned close to the Iya Kazurabashi vine bridge, one of the Iya Valley's best-known sights, and set among the steep forested slopes that define the region. The building has a rustic, mountain-lodge character built around local timber and stone, distinct from the ryokan found in Tokushima's coastal towns, with an emphasis on the valley's isolation and scenery rather than urban convenience. Guest rooms come as Japanese Tatami Rooms and Japanese-Western Combination rooms, most offering views over the surrounding mountains, with simple, traditional furnishings rather than modern hotel styling. The hotel's signature feature is its irori hearth dining room, where river fish such as ayu and amago, along with mountain vegetables and wild mushrooms foraged locally, are grilled over an open charcoal hearth in front of guests, a dining style specific to the Iya region. A rooftop hot spring bath overlooking the gorge is the other highlight, offering open-air bathing with views down into the valley, particularly striking at dusk. There is no pool, gym, or spa treatment menu beyond the bathing facilities, keeping the focus on the setting and the hearth-cooked dinner rather than resort amenities. Free parking accommodates the fact that most guests arrive by rental car, since the Iya Valley has limited public transport; staff can advise on driving routes to the vine bridge and further into the valley toward Oku-Iya's double vine bridges.
