Ashikaga Flower Park

Ashikaga Flower Park sits about 55km southwest of Utsunomiya Station in Ashikaga City, reached in roughly an hour via the JR Ryomo Line to Tomita Station followed by a 13-minute walk, or by a seasonal direct train to Ashikaga Flower Park Station right outside the entrance during peak wisteria and winter illumination periods. The park is best known for its wisteria tunnels, including a giant 150-year-old great wisteria tree supported on trellises that visitors walk beneath, along with cascading pink, white, and yellow wisteria varieties draped over arched walkways. A typical day starts with a morning arrival to see the wisteria at its most vivid before midday crowds build, particularly during the late April to early May peak bloom, when the park draws large numbers of domestic and international visitors. Late morning and early afternoon suit a walk through the park's other seasonal gardens, which rotate through tulips in spring, roses in early summer, and other flowering displays depending on the month. In winter, from November through February, the park transforms for its evening light illumination, one of the largest in Japan, requiring a different visit strategy timed for dusk rather than morning. Food at the park includes on-site cafes and food stalls serving light meals, ice cream, and seasonal snacks, with additional restaurants near Tomita Station for a more substantial lunch.
