Tokinokane Coffee

Tokinokane Coffee is a cafe on Kanetsuki-dori, the street beside Kawagoe's iconic Toki no Kane bell tower, one of the most photographed landmarks in the town's Kurazukuri warehouse district. The cafe builds its menu around Kawagoe's signature sweet potato, serving an imo (sweet potato) latte that blends steamed and pureed satsumaimo into espresso-based coffee for a distinctly local twist on a cafe staple, alongside a sweet potato parfait layered with soft-serve, cubes of candied potato, and a crumble topping. For a savory option, a Kawagoe pork sandwich rounds out the menu, giving visitors something beyond the sweet-potato theme for a light lunch. The cafe's location directly beside the bell tower makes its outdoor and window seating some of the most sought-after in Kawagoe, with views of the tower's traditional wooden structure and the crowds gathering for its scheduled chimes. The atmosphere is casual and bright, more modern cafe than traditional teahouse, drawing a mix of tourists photographing the bell tower and locals stopping for coffee. There is no reservation system, and queues are common on weekends when Kurazukuri street traffic peaks; the cafe closes irregularly, so checking ahead before a dedicated visit is worthwhile. Visiting near one of the bell's scheduled ringing times (traditionally around 6AM, noon, 3PM, and 6PM) adds to the experience of a seat here.
