The Karatsu Kunchi Yatai Food Stalls line the route around Karatsu Shrine and Otemon Street in Karatsu, Saga Prefecture, appearing only during the Karatsu Kunchi festival, held annually 2–4 November, when the town's famous lacquered float parade draws large crowds. The stalls sell classic Japanese festival food — ikayaki grilled squid, takoyaki octopus balls, and yakisoba fried noodles — cooked to order on portable griddles set up along the parade route. There is no seating or beverage programme in any formal sense; this is standing, walking festival food eaten on the move between float viewings, with drinks limited to whatever bottled beverages individual vendors carry. The atmosphere during the festival is loud, crowded, and celebratory, running from early morning to late evening across the three festival days, a sharp contrast to the quiet town outside the Kunchi period. Because the stalls exist only for these specific dates, there is no way to visit outside 2–4 November, and no reservation system applies — it is entirely a cash-based, walk-up experience.
