Genyou

Genyou sits in the Yobuko Port area of Karatsu, Saga Prefecture, and distinguishes itself among the town's many squid restaurants with window seating that looks out toward Hado Cape and the open Genkai Sea. The kitchen serves the standard Yobuko trio — live squid sashimi, salt-grilled cuttlefish, and cuttlefish tempura — with a particular focus on the salt-grilling technique, which lets the sweetness of the local cuttlefish come through without heavy sauce. There is no formal beverage program beyond Saga sake, shochu, and beer, kept simple to match the seafood-forward menu. Dress is casual, and the pace is relaxed rather than rushed, making it a reasonable stop for a longer lunch during a Yobuko harbor visit. Reservation lead time is short — same-day or a few hours ahead is typically enough outside major holiday weekends — and the restaurant's appeal rests on the combination of a reliable Yobuko seafood menu with one of the better sea views among the port's restaurant row.
