Yoshinogari Historical Park Walking Trail

The Yoshinogari Historical Park Walking Trail loops through Japan's largest reconstructed Yayoi-period archaeological site in Yoshinogari-cho, Kanzaki, Saga, reached via JR Yoshinogari-koen Station, 35 minutes from JR Saga Station (¥420), followed by a 15-minute walk to the park's East Entrance; an admission fee applies. The trail covers 4 to 6 km depending on which loop of reconstruction zones is followed, taking 2 to 3 hours to see the main areas at a walking pace, and is entirely flat with under 20 m of elevation change throughout. The path is paved and graveled walkway suitable for all fitness levels, with almost no shade across the open grassland areas between reconstruction zones, though some shelter is available inside the reconstructed buildings themselves. Key landmarks along the route include the reconstructed moated Southern Inner Enclosure with its watchtowers and pit dwellings, the large burial mounds (funkyubo) containing preserved Yayoi-period burial jars, and the reconstructed granary district; the Southern Inner Enclosure makes a reasonable turnaround point for a shorter 2 km version of the walk. Restrooms, vending machines, and rest areas are distributed throughout the park, and the visitor center near the East Entrance offers water and shaded seating. The open plain is planted with rapeseed flowers in spring and cosmos in autumn, and both seasons draw larger crowds for photography, particularly on weekends.
