Appi Kogen Hotel

Appi Kogen Hotel is the central accommodation complex at Appi Kogen (Appi Highland) ski resort, one of the largest ski areas in the Tohoku region, situated in Hachimantai, northern Iwate Prefecture, at an elevation of roughly 1,000 metres. The resort receives consistent powder snow from November through April, and the hotel's ski-in/ski-out position at the base of the main gondola lift removes the need for bus transfers between the slopes and the accommodation. Appi Kogen Station on the JR Hanawa Line is approximately 15 minutes by the resort shuttle from the hotel entrance.

The hotel is a large resort building engineered to handle both the winter ski season and a substantial summer visitor market. The architecture blends alpine lodge styling with the practical amenity range of a full-service Japanese resort: multiple restaurants covering a spectrum from casual ramen and soba counters to a more formal evening buffet; a two-floor indoor swimming pool; and onsen spa baths drawing on geothermal water from the Hachimantai volcanic plateau. A ski hire shop and a certified ski school are operated within the resort village adjacent to the hotel.

Room categories range from standard rooms with mountain or forest views to superior rooms with upgraded furnishings, family suites sleeping up to four guests, and ski-loft configurations suited to groups. In summer, occupancy pivots to hiking trails across the Hachimantai National Park plateau, road cycling, and mountain golf. Wildlife observation is a secondary draw, including Japanese macaques that descend to lower elevations in colder months.

The Appi Kogen ski area covers more than 21 runs across beginner, intermediate, and advanced terrain, with the upper gondola station providing access to open-bowl skiing above the treeline during the peak season. The resort's reputation in domestic ski communities rests particularly on reliable snow depth and grooming quality through March.
