Cascade de la Metchie

Cascade de la Metchie is a waterfall near Metchie village in the Tonkpi Region of western Cote d'Ivoire, reached by a village road roughly 20 to 30 minutes from the town of Man. The falls drop over a rocky ledge into a shaded pool surrounded by dense forest vegetation, and the short approach path from the village winds through farmland and forest before opening onto the cascade itself. A community access fee collected at the village supports the site's upkeep, and a local guide often accompanies visitors along the final stretch to the falls, pointing out the route down to the pool's edge and the safest rocks for viewing the water. A visit takes about one to two hours in total, including the walk in from the road, time at the falls, and the return trip; the pool at the base is shallow enough for wading in the drier months, though currents strengthen considerably during the rainy season. The rainy season from June to October produces the fullest water flow and the most dramatic cascade, when the falls are at their loudest and most photogenic, while the dry season reduces the flow to a gentler trickle over the same rock ledge. The forest canopy around the falls keeps the site shaded and noticeably cooler than the open road leading in, making it a popular stop to break up a day of hiking or sightseeing around Man. Because the site is community-managed rather than a formal park, facilities are minimal, so visitors should not expect signage, restrooms or vendors at the falls themselves.
