Quad bikes and helmets are supplied by the Assinie quad and buggy rental outfitters that run the circuits, and riders should wear closed shoes rather than sandals, since loose sand and occasional rocky ground make an exposed foot a real hazard. These are small, independent local rental businesses rather than internationally certified adventure operators, so it is worth checking that helmets are provided and machines are in good working order before setting off. A safety briefing covers basic quad controls, throttle and brake use, and the group route, and guides ride at the front and rear of the convoy to keep less confident riders together; speeds are kept moderate on the more built-up lagoon-side sections. The route mixes beach sand, which can be soft and slow going near the waterline, with firmer inland tracks. The driest conditions, from December to April, give the most predictable riding surface, while the wetter months can leave inland tracks muddy and rutted.
