Ébrié Lagoon Sunset from the Cocody Waterfront

The Cocody waterfront along Boulevard de France, near the Hôtel Ivoire, faces west across the Ébrié Lagoon and offers one of Abidjan's most reliable sunset frames: open water in the foreground, the lagoon's low far shore as a horizon line, and passing pirogues or fishing boats as silhouetted subjects. The strongest composition places the sun low over the water with a boat or the Hôtel Ivoire's tower breaking the horizon, using a polarizing filter to cut glare and deepen the sky's color. Sunset falls consistently around 6 to 6:30pm year-round this close to the equator, with little seasonal variation in timing, though the dry season (November-March) gives clearer skies and more saturated color than the hazier, cloud-streaked rainy season. The waterfront promenade draws a steady stream of evening walkers and joggers, so a tripod position should be claimed 20-30 minutes before sunset; the railing itself offers a stable, unobstructed vantage without needing to enter the water. There is no fee or restriction to photograph from the public promenade, and tripods on the paved walkway are unproblematic outside of peak evening foot traffic. Drone use is unrestricted for casual flights but should stay clear of the nearby Hôtel Ivoire helipad and lagoon boat traffic. A short walk along the boulevard toward Hôtel Ivoire adds variety, framing the hotel's modernist silhouette against the same sunset light.
