Marché de Treichville is one of Abidjan's busiest markets, located in the Treichville district south of the Ébrié Lagoon, and it is visited independently rather than through an organised tour. The market spreads across covered and open-air sections selling cassava, plantain, spices, and fresh fish brought in daily from nearby landing points, giving it a stronger seafood emphasis than the smaller neighbourhood markets in Cocody or Adjamé. There is no set walking route; visitors move through the aisles at their own pace, and a full circuit covering the produce, spice, and fish sections typically takes one to two hours. Browsing is free, with snacks and small prepared-food purchases running roughly 500 to 3,500 XOF (about $1-$6). Because the market is not run by a tour operator, there is no guide, fixed group size, or set language of service; vendors generally communicate in French and local languages. Just outside the market, open-air maquis serve grilled brochettes and seafood, giving visitors a place to sit down and eat a cooked meal after browsing the stalls. Mornings are recommended both for fresher fish and for avoiding the heaviest crowds and vehicle traffic around the market's edges. Visitors with dietary restrictions should check directly with vendors, since the fish and grilled items are prepared on shared equipment.
