Molise is one of Italy's smallest and least-touristy regions, a hidden corner of the central Apennines where Roman ruins, Samnite sanctuaries, mountain villages, and a short stretch of Adriatic coast remain remarkably unspoiled. Split from Abruzzo in 1963, it rewards travellers seeking authentic Italy without the crowds.
Nightlife in Molise is gentle and authentic rather than glamorous. The seaside town of Termoli is the summer focus, where the evening passeggiata along the lungomare flows into aperitivo and late drinks in the cafes, gelaterie and wine bars woven through the pastel alleys of the Borgo Antico, the medieval old town above the harbour. From June to September the beach moves the party onto the sand at Campomarino Lido, where lidi such as Lido Mare Chiaro lay on live music and entertainment. The regional capital Campobasso has the most consistent year-round scene, concentrated in the historic centre around Piazza Pepe and the cathedral, where bars and pubs are kept busy by university students and military personnel. Themed pubs like Konig Ludwig pour craft and German beers, while underground-style bars such as Old Way and PALA mix cocktails with curated DJ sets and live music. Isernia, the second provincial capital, adds a handful of bars and pubs in its old town. Throughout the region the emphasis is on Tintilia wine, local craft beer, generous aperitivo snacks and summer festivals rather than nightclubs, and outside the summer season much of the coastal scene quietens down.
