The wilder southern approach to Monte Miletto, starting from the karst lake of Lago del Matese. The waymarked Path 13 (red/white) climbs roughly 5 km and over a kilometre of ascent from the little chapel of San Michele up steep beech-clad slopes and grassy ridges to the summit. It is a serious, sustained climb rewarded by some of the finest mountain scenery in the southern Apennines.
