The Transiberiana d'Italia is one of Italy's great scenic railways, climbing 140 km from Sulmona through the Abruzzo and Majella highlands and down to Isernia in Molise. On designated days, vintage carriages run the high mountain route past Roccaraso, Castel di Sangro and Rivisondoli-Pescocostanzo, crossing some of the highest railway in the Apennines. From the Molise side, the run from Isernia northward into the mountains is spectacular in every season.
