Saepinum, known today as Altilia, is one of Italy's most atmospheric and least-visited Roman towns, set among open farmland near Sepino. Visitors wander freely through the colonnaded forum, basilica, theatre, gates and paved cardo and decumanus, with the ancient Pescasseroli–Candela sheep-droving tratturo running straight through the site. Farmhouses built into the Roman walls give it a uniquely living feel.
