Campomarino Lido and Dunes

Campomarino Lido is Molise's leading seaside resort, a long stretch of wide golden sand on the Adriatic in the Campobasso province, repeatedly awarded Blue Flag status for water quality and services. Behind the beach lies a protected belt of pinewood and coastal dunes near the mouth of the Biferno river, a small but ecologically important habitat that gives the shore a natural backdrop rare on this developed coast. Visitors find a mix of organised beach clubs (lidos) renting sunbeds and parasols and generous free public stretches, with shallow, gently shelving water that makes the resort popular with families. The pine forest behind the sand offers shade and easy walking paths away from the open beach. A visit can be a half day or a full day depending on the season and inclination, from a quick swim to a whole day of sunbathing, walking the dunes and eating at the seafront. Sunbed and parasol hire at the lidos typically runs around 10 to 20 euros per day, while the free stretches cost nothing and tend to be quieter. The dunes and pinewood reward a slow walk, particularly in early morning. June and September are the sweet spot, with warm sea and far fewer people than the packed July to August peak, when Italian holidaymakers fill the resort. The beach is reached in about fifteen minutes from Termoli by car or train, with the modern Lido sitting a little apart from the older hill town of Campomarino inland. Out of season the long beach is largely empty and good for walking. Inland, the older hill town of Campomarino preserves an Albanian-Arbereshe heritage, with a historic centre and traditions distinct from the modern resort by the sea. The pinewood behind the beach is part of a protected coastal strip that shelters dune plants and migrating birds. Cycle paths and walking routes link the lido with the river mouth, and seasonal events animate the seafront through the high-summer months.
