Terme di Frasassi (San Vittore), Genga

The Terme di Frasassi, also known as the Terme di San Vittore, sit at San Vittore Terme in the municipality of Genga, in the province of Ancona in inland Marche, beside the dramatic gorge that leads to the celebrated Frasassi caves and next to the Romanesque abbey of San Vittore alle Chiuse. The spa draws on a sulphurous-sodium mineral water used above all for respiratory, ear-nose-throat and rheumatic conditions, delivered through a well-equipped inhalation department offering inhalations, aerosols, humages, nasal showers and endotympanic insufflations, alongside mud and fango therapy, balneotherapy and a thermal pool fitted with cervical waterfalls, a Kneipp path and hydromassage. There is a paediatric department, reflecting the spa's strength in childhood respiratory care, and physiotherapy services for rehabilitation. Treatment staff are trained in medical hydrotherapy, and prescribed cures may be carried out under the Italian national health system with the appropriate referral. The thermal pool is open to day visitors, with admission of around EUR 18 (roughly USD 19) for a full day and EUR 12 for the afternoon, while individual treatments are priced separately. The thermal season runs roughly from May to November, with the pool open through the day and the treatment departments operating mainly in the mornings. The setting is the great attraction: the spa stands amid the limestone cliffs of the Gola di Frasassi, so a thermal visit combines naturally with the underground spectacle of the Grotte di Frasassi, the abbey of San Vittore and the cliff-set Tempio del Valadier. Spring and autumn bring the most comfortable weather for combining the cure with the surrounding monuments and scenery, making the Terme di Frasassi one of the most distinctively located spas in the region.
