La Subida is a family-run agriturismo estate set on a wooded hillside above Cormons, in the Collio DOC wine zone of eastern Friuli Venezia Giulia, approximately 30 kilometres east of Udine and 8 kilometres from the Slovenian border. The property has operated continuously since the 1960s and is among the most recognised rural hospitality addresses in the region. Its central distinction is the Trattoria Al Cacciatore, the estate's restaurant, which has maintained Michelin recognition for decades — a rare achievement for an agriturismo — and draws diners from across northern Italy and across the border from Slovenia. The estate is set within mixed oak and chestnut woodland, giving the grounds a woodland retreat character distinct from the open vine-row landscapes of the lower Collio.
Accommodation divides between Country Rooms in the main farmhouse, freestanding Cottages distributed through the estate grounds, and Suites. All are furnished in a warm Friulian rural style using locally crafted wooden furniture, stone or terracotta floors, and textiles in natural tones. There is no swimming pool, but the estate's garden and woodland paths provide extensive outdoor space. The wine cellar is stocked with bottles from the surrounding Collio producers — Livon, Venica and Venica, Schiopetto, and Princic among them — and guided cellar tours can be arranged through the estate team. Cooking classes in traditional Friulian cuisine are available for small groups and are a particularly popular booking among food-focused visitors.
Bicycle hire enables guests to explore the Collio cycling circuit, a signposted loop through vine-covered hills that crosses briefly into Slovenia; the experience of pedalling from Italy into Slovenia and back in a single morning ride encapsulates the border-dissolving quality of this part of Friuli. The property is reachable by car from Cormons (4 km) or Udine (30 km); no public transport reaches the estate.

Tips for visiting
- Reserve a table at Trattoria Al Cacciatore well in advance — the restaurant draws diners from Udine, Gorizia, and Ljubljana specifically and fills on weekends many weeks ahead.
- Cottages offer more privacy and a stronger sense of the woodland setting than rooms in the main farmhouse; they are particularly good in summer when the estate garden comes fully into leaf.
- The Collio cycling circuit crosses into Slovenian Brda — the hills are a direct continuation of the Italian Collio and the vineyards are nearly indistinguishable. Bring your passport for the crossing even though the border is informal.
- Cooking classes must be booked well in advance and are best arranged when making the room reservation; they are run as structured sessions rather than casual drop-ins.
