Ducati Museum, Bologna

The Museo Ducati is located at the Ducati motorcycle factory in Bologna's Borgo Panigale district, approximately 8 kilometres west of the city centre, and stands as one of the world's finest motorcycle museums. Founded in 1926 as a radio components manufacturer before transitioning to motorcycles in 1950, Ducati's Borgo Panigale factory has been the heart of the brand's production and engineering ever since. The museum occupies a dedicated building at the factory entrance and displays over 50 motorcycles arranged chronologically and thematically — from the earliest postwar Cucciolo clip-on engine (1946) through the iconic Bevel twins, the Desmodromic engine development era, and into the modern age of MotoGP-derived Panigale superbikes and Multistrada adventure tourers. The MotoGP racing section is particularly strong, tracing Ducati's Desmosedici GP programme from its first championship season through multiple world titles and displaying current and recent race machines. The museum's storytelling effectively weaves technical innovation — Ducati's unique Desmodromic valve actuation system, L-twin engine architecture, and carbon-fibre construction — with the brand's racing and cultural identity. Engine cutaway displays make the Desmodromic system comprehensible to non-engineers. Factory tours run on weekday mornings and must be booked well in advance through the official Ducati website; they provide access to the active production floor where Panigale V4 and Multistrada models are assembled. The museum is reachable from Bologna city centre by city bus in approximately 30 minutes, or by taxi in under 15 minutes. Allow 1.5–2 hours for a thorough visit.
