The Gaiola islets lie off the Posillipo coast of Naples in Campania, reached by the Discesa Gaiola lane from Via Posillipo, and form part of a protected marine area. The two small islets, joined by a narrow bridge, are best seen from the lane above and the rocky shore, or from a boat.

The frame places turquoise water and the pale tuff rock of the islets against the Posillipo cliffs, with the old villa on the larger islet as a focal point. Early morning gives soft light on the water and few visitors, while late afternoon from the clifftop stairs brings warm side-light on the cliffs. May to October gives the bluest water and the best visibility for the shallow sea; autumn has fewer people. A polarising filter cuts surface glare and reveals the colour of the sea, and a telephoto lens isolates the islets and bridge from the lane without needing to climb down. Weekends in summer are crowded with swimmers and boat trips, so the narrow lane and shoreline platforms are congested; weekday mornings are far easier for tripod placement, though a tripod can be awkward on the narrow lane and is best kept to quiet times. Drones are restricted in this protected marine area and should not be assumed legal. Underwater photography is possible on guided snorkelling visits arranged through the marine area management (gaiola.org, +39 081 240 3235). Access to the lane is free, while guided activities carry a fee. Restrooms and water are limited near the lane, so facilities are best found at nearby cafes before descending. The descent is steep and uneven in places, with steps on the way down.
