Path of the Gods (Sentiero degli Dei)

The Path of the Gods (Sentiero degli Dei) is a long-distance mountain hiking trail traversing the high ridge above the Amalfi Coast between the village of Bomerano (in the municipality of Agerola) and Nocelle above Positano, in the Campania region of Italy. The route covers approximately 7.8 kilometres and is rated medium difficulty, with a total descent of around 600 metres when walked in the traditional direction from Bomerano to Nocelle. The path takes its dramatic name from the uninterrupted panoramic views that accompany walkers throughout: the full sweep of the Amalfi Coast lies below, with Positano, Praiano, and Amalfi visible in turn; the islands of Capri, Ischia, and Procida sit on the horizon; and on clear days the Calabrian mountains are visible across the sea. The trail follows the western Lattari Mountains at altitudes between 400 and 600 metres, passing through macchia mediterranea scrubland of wild rosemary, broom, and sea squill, crossing terraced lemon and chestnut groves, and skirting cliff edges that drop vertically to the sea below. Starting from Bomerano allows the descending direction (approximately 3–4 hours), finishing in Nocelle where a short steep path or local bus completes the descent to Positano. The reverse direction, ascending from Nocelle to Bomerano, takes 4–5 hours and is significantly harder. Key viewpoints include the ridge above Positano, the open terraces above Praiano, and the saddle between Monte Pertuso and the coast. The trail is free and open year-round, though closed sections have occurred after landslides; checking conditions before setting out is advisable.
