Paragliding from Positano Cliffs

Tandem paragliding above Positano is an airborne adventure that launches from the high ridges behind the Amalfi Coast in Campania, Italy, giving passengers a soaring, bird's-eye view of the cliffside village, its pastel houses and the sea that no boat or footpath can match. Because flights are flown tandem with a certified pilot, no experience or skill is needed and the activity is rated easy for the passenger: the participant is clipped into a harness in front of the pilot, takes a few running steps off the launch slope (commonly the high meadows above Agerola and the Monte Comune/Sant'Agata area that overlook the coast), and is then seated comfortably for the flight. The tandem outfit provides all equipment, the wing, harness, helmet and reserve parachute, while the passenger simply wears closed shoes, comfortable clothing and a light jacket, as the air is cooler aloft. Reputable operators fly with pilots licensed through the Italian aero club system and the FIVL, give a short safety briefing on the take-off run, seating and landing posture, and check wind, thermals and the reserve before every flight; the reserve parachute and the pilot's training form the core of the safety and emergency plan, and flights are simply not run when conditions are marginal. Wind direction and strength govern everything, so the season runs spring to autumn, roughly May to October, with calm, stable mornings or late afternoons the prime windows; midday thermals, strong wind, cloud on the ridges or rain all ground flights, and operators reschedule rather than fly in doubt. A tandem flight generally costs €120-200 depending on duration and whether photos are included. Many pilots carry a GoPro on a pole to film the flight, capturing the descent over the Amalfi cliffs toward the landing field as a keepsake.
