The Marker Hotel stands on Grand Canal Square in Dublin's Docklands district, a ten-minute walk east of Trinity College and approximately 20 minutes on foot from the city centre's main hotel cluster around St Stephen's Green. The Marker was designed by architect Manuel Aires Mateus and completed in 2013 as part of the regeneration of the Grand Canal Dock area — now home to the European headquarters of Google, Airbnb, and other technology companies. The building's exterior is immediately distinctive: a latticed black-and-white geometric facade that references a three-dimensional grid, setting the hotel apart visually from every other building on the square.
