Denpasar is the capital of Bali province and its largest city, home to about 725,000 people. It is the island's administrative, trading and cultural centre, with the Bajra Sandhi Monument, Museum Bali, the Badung produce market and the Sanur beach district.
Denpasar after dark is low-key. Sanur has a handful of pubs, live-music bars and cafes along Jl. Danau Tamblingan, Jl. Cemara and the Ngurah Rai bypass, while the city's evening life for locals is the night food market at Pasar Kreneng. Big beach clubs and nightclubs are in Kuta, Seminyak and Canggu, not in Denpasar.
Expect pubs closing around midnight, acoustic or cover-band live music, and night-market snacks. Hotels in Sanur are quiet by 23:00.
