Climate Overview
Tamil Nadu has a predominantly tropical climate with temperatures moderated by the Bay of Bengal. Unlike most of India, Tamil Nadu receives the bulk of its rainfall from the northeast monsoon (October-December) rather than the southwest monsoon. The state has three distinct climatic zones: hot, humid coastal areas; the hotter, drier interior plains; and the cool Nilgiri and Palani hill stations.
