One of the twelve Jyotirlinga temples, this sacred complex on Pamban Island features the longest temple corridors in India at 1,212 meters. The temple has 22 sacred wells (theerthams) with distinct properties, and pilgrims bathe in all before worship. The towering 38-meter eastern gopuram is an architectural marvel.
