A UNESCO World Heritage railway built in 1908 that climbs from Mettupalayam through lush tea gardens, dense forests, and 16 tunnels to reach Ooty at 2,203m. The steam-powered rack-and-pinion railway is one of only three such railways in the world and offers some of India's most scenic train journeys.
