One of the five sacred Shiva temples (Pancha Bhuta Stalas) representing space (akasha), the Nataraja Temple is celebrated for its stunning bronze sculpture of Shiva as the Lord of Dance. The temple has been a center of Bharatanatyam classical dance for centuries and hosts the Natyanjali Dance Festival during Mahashivratri.
