Chittorgarh Fort is one of India's largest and most historically significant forts, a UNESCO World Heritage Site covering 700 acres on a plateau 180 meters above the plains. This was the capital of the Mewar kingdom and the site of three legendary jauhar (mass self-immolations) during Mughal invasions. The fort contains seven gates, impressive towers including Vijay Stambha (Tower of Victory), temples, and palaces.
