Day trip from Delhi, Delhi

Sariska Tiger Reserve

3.5 hours by roadeasy

India's closest major tiger reserve to Delhi, Sariska National Park covers 866 km² of Aravalli hill forest. The park hosts approximately 20 tigers (relocated from Ranthambore), leopards, hyenas, jackals, nilgai, sambar deer, and over 200 bird species. Two safari windows per day (morning and evening) are the primary attraction. Book jeep safaris well in advance through the Rajasthan Forest Department — permits are limited and frequently sell out.

How to get there

  • {'mode': 'Private car (recommended)', 'route': 'NH-48 Delhi-Jaipur Highway, exit at Shahjahanpur, then SH-25 to Sariska', 'duration': '3.5h each way', 'cost_usd': 50, 'cost_inr': 4200, 'notes': 'A private car is strongly recommended — limited public transport options to the reserve entrance.'}
  • {'mode': 'Bus + taxi', 'route': 'Delhi ISBT Kashmere Gate to Alwar (bus, 3h), then taxi to Sariska (35km, 45min)', 'duration': '4h total each way', 'cost_usd': 8, 'cost_inr': 650, 'notes': 'Budget option but time-consuming and limits safari timing flexibility.'}

Tips

  • Book safari permits on the Rajasthan Forest Department website (sariska.rajasthan.gov.in) weeks ahead — they sell out fast.
  • Morning safari (6AM entry) has the best wildlife activity and light for photography.
  • A zoom lens of 300-600mm is essential for tiger photography.
  • Tiger sightings are not guaranteed — Sariska has a lower density than Ranthambore. Leopard sightings are more common.
