Hungary captivates visitors with its stunning capital Budapest, world-renowned thermal baths, and rich cultural heritage. From the grandeur of the Hungarian Parliament to the historic thermal spas and vibrant ruin bars, this Central European gem offers exceptional value and unforgettable experiences.
Hungary has a temperate continental climate with four distinct seasons. Summers are warm to hot (25-35°C in July), winters are cold (often below 0°C in January), and spring and autumn offer the most pleasant conditions for sightseeing. Budapest sits in a sheltered river valley which moderates temperatures somewhat—winters are less severe than in the northeast, summers can be humid. Rainfall is distributed fairly evenly throughout the year, with spring and early summer being slightly wetter.
Best time to visit
Best: April-May and September-October (pleasant temperatures, manageable crowds, green landscapes)
Peak Season: June-August (summer festivals, warm weather, Sziget Festival, outdoor events)
Shoulder Season: April-May, September-October (mild weather, fewer crowds, lower prices)
Avoid: January-February (coldest, grey, limited outdoor activities)
Best Reason: Spring and fall offer comfortable temperatures (15-22°C), beautiful foliage or blooming parks, and smaller crowds than the summer peak
Avoid Reason: Deep winter (Jan-Feb) brings cold grey days with temperatures near freezing, though thermal baths and Christmas markets make December and early January atmospheric

Spring
Months: Mar-May
Hungary's most beautiful season with flowering chestnut trees, tulips in city parks, and gradually warming temperatures. March can still be chilly (5-12°C) but April and May are ideal for sightseeing at 15-22°C. Easter brings traditional folk celebrations.
