Prespes Guesthouse

Prespes Guesthouse is a family-run property in Agios Germanos, the main village on the Greek shore of the Great Prespa Lake and the primary base for visiting the Prespa National Park — one of the most biodiverse protected areas in the Balkans, shared between Greece, North Macedonia, and Albania. The guesthouse sits at around 900 metres in a village of stone houses and narrow lanes, overlooking the lake and the broad wetlands that form a critical habitat for Dalmatian and great white pelicans, pygmy cormorants, and over 260 other recorded bird species. The building is a traditional stone-and-wood structure consistent with the vernacular architecture of the Prespa basin. Rooms include doubles, twins, and a family room, kept in clean and comfortable condition without pretension to resort standards. The defining feature of a stay here is the natural setting: lake views from the guesthouse and gardens frame the wetlands and, in early mornings, pelican columns crossing the water. A home-cooked breakfast is included, using local eggs, dairy, and honey from the Prespa region — a region also known for its distinctive large-bean crop (Prespes gigantes). Free Wi-Fi is provided, and parking is available for guests who arrive by car, which is the only practical way to reach Agios Germanos from Florina (approximately 50 km via mountain road). The guesthouse is popular with ornithologists, wildlife photographers, and nature travellers from across Europe, particularly during spring migration from March through May when pelican colonies are most active.
