Nymfaio Country House

Nymfaio Country House is a traditional stone guesthouse in Nymfaio, one of the best-preserved Ottoman-era villages in northern Greece, situated at approximately 1350 metres altitude in the Vitsi mountains south-east of Florina. The village itself was declared a protected settlement due to its exceptional concentration of 18th and 19th-century stone architecture, cobblestone lanes, and wooden-balconied houses; the Country House blends into this ensemble using the same grey-brown schist stone that characterises the entire settlement. The interiors combine authentic mountain character — exposed stone walls, heavy wooden beams, and working fireplaces — with comfortable contemporary furnishings. Double rooms are cosy and warm, while the suite with fireplace is well-suited to couples on a winter break, with the fire serving as a centrepiece during cold Vitsi nights when temperatures regularly drop below freezing. Breakfast is included in the room rate and typically features local honey, mountain cheeses, homemade jams, and fresh bread — products typical of the broader Florina region. There is no restaurant for lunch or dinner, but Nymfaio has several tavernas in the village serving traditional grills and bean dishes a short walk from the guesthouse. The Vigla ski centre is approximately 8 kilometres from the village, and the guesthouse is popular with skiers in winter; in summer it attracts hikers using trails in the Vitsi range and birdwatchers drawn to the nearby Prespa lakes, about 45 minutes by car.
