Stoupa Beach Hotel

Stoupa Beach Hotel sits on the edge of Stoupa village in the Exo Mani (Outer Mani) peninsula of Messenia, one of the few Mani coastal settlements with proper sandy beaches. The village lies roughly 60 kilometres south of Kalamata and about 30 kilometres north of Areopoli, the Mani's main inland town. The hotel's position gives direct or near-direct access to two adjacent sandy coves — Stoupa Beach and the smaller Kalogria Beach a short walk to the north — both with clear water and a gradual gradient suitable for swimmers of all levels.

The hotel is a conventional Greek beach property of modest scale, situated one to two minutes' walk from the waterfront. Rooms are simply furnished with balconies oriented toward Stoupa Bay or the garden. Sea-view rooms on upper floors have unobstructed views across the bay to the surrounding Mani hillsides. Superior beachfront rooms offer ground-level garden terraces facing the water.

The hotel operates a poolside bar and a restaurant serving Greek and Mediterranean dishes. Fresh fish sourced from Stoupa's small fishing fleet is available most evenings and changes with the catch. Breakfast is a standard buffet of local yoghurt, honey, pastries, and eggs. A water sports rental operation adjacent to the beach provides kayaks, paddleboards, and pedal boats.

The surrounding area offers walking routes into the lower Mani interior, day trips to the Diros Caves (approximately 40 kilometres south), and access to Stoupa's taverna strip along the beachfront road. Kardamyli — a village at the northern edge of the Mani known for its towers, gorge walks, and literary associations with Patrick Leigh Fermor — is 10 kilometres north by road. The hotel is family-friendly, with a children's pool and staff accustomed to guests with young children.

Highlights

  • Short walk from both Stoupa and Kalogria sandy beaches, two of the cleaner family-friendly coves on the Mani coast
  • On-site pool, bar, and restaurant offering fresh fish sourced daily from Stoupa's local fishing boats
  • Central base for the Outer Mani peninsula — Kardamyli gorge walks, Diros Caves, and tower villages all within 40 kilometres

Tips for visiting

  • Kalogria Beach, five minutes' walk north of Stoupa, is consistently quieter than the main beach; in July–August arrive before 9am to secure a spot without a lounger reservation
  • Rent a car or scooter on arrival — Stoupa village is walkable but the main Mani sights require transport and the mountain roads are enjoyable to drive
  • Ask the hotel restaurant for the catch of the day rather than ordering from the printed menu; the kitchen receives fresh fish each morning and availability changes daily
