Menalon Art Hotel

Menalon Art Hotel occupies a restored stone building in Dimitsana, a medieval village perched on a ridge at 950 metres elevation in the Arcadian highlands of the central Peloponnese. Dimitsana sits above the Lousios Gorge — one of the Peloponnese's most scenic river canyons — and the hotel commands views across the gorge to the forested slopes of Mount Menalon opposite. The village is approximately 70 kilometres northwest of Tripoli and is reachable via the E65 motorway followed by regional mountain roads.

The hotel takes its identity from a dual mandate: it operates as both a mountain retreat and a showcase for contemporary Greek art. Common areas, corridors, and room walls display rotating works by Greek painters and sculptors, selected in collaboration with galleries in Athens and Thessaloniki and refreshed each season. The building's construction follows traditional Arcadian vernacular — thick rubble-stone walls, slate roofs, and timber-beam ceilings — while interiors use clean contemporary detailing and neutral palettes that allow the artwork and mountain light to dominate.

Rooms divide between deluxe mountain rooms with panoramic views of the Arcadian peaks and gorge-facing suites with direct outlooks over the Lousios canyon. All rooms include fireplaces, which are lit from October through April. The combination of thick stone walls and open fireplaces makes the property particularly popular in autumn and winter, when the village quiets considerably from its summer hiking traffic.

The restaurant draws on Arcadian highland produce — lamb from Menalon shepherds, local aged cheeses, mountain greens foraged from the gorge, and trout from the Lousios River — and serves both à la carte and fixed seasonal menus. The bar stocks local tsipouro and Arcadian wines. Marked hiking trails from the village square descend into the Lousios Gorge to the monasteries of Prodromos and Philosophou, and continue onward to Stemnitsa village. The hotel can provide trail maps and arrange guided walks with local guides on request. Dimitsana's Water Mill Museum and Museum of the Greek Revolution of 1821 are both within ten minutes' walk.
