Tsambika Beach, Samos

Tsambika Beach lies along the northern coast of Samos near the village of Kokkari, about 8 kilometres from the island capital Vathy. The beach features a mix of fine sand and smooth pebbles with exceptionally clear blue-green water, making it one of the most visually striking stretches of the North Aegean coast. The beach curves in a gentle arc, open to the north, and benefits from good afternoon sunshine. The southern end transitions to rocky outcrops that create shallow pools ideal for snorkelling, where visitors can observe bream, damselfish, and occasional octopus among the sea grass. The central section is well-organised with rental sunbeds and umbrellas (approximately €8–€10 per pair in peak season), backed by a beach bar serving drinks, snacks, and simple meals throughout the day. A small car park sits directly behind the beach, though spaces fill by mid-morning in July and August. The beach draws a relaxed, predominantly Greek crowd early and late in the season, shifting to a more international mix at peak summer. Families favour the calmer inshore shallows while swimmers and snorkellers gravitate toward the rock formations at the southern end. Water sports are not offered, keeping the atmosphere relatively quiet. The surrounding landscape of pine-covered hills and rocky headlands adds to the setting. Rental car from Vathy takes roughly 20 minutes via the northern coastal road; a taxi costs approximately €15. There is no direct public bus, so a vehicle is generally necessary. Lifeguard coverage is not provided; swimmers should be cautious during the occasional summer meltemi, which can strengthen currents. Restroom facilities are available near the parking area.
