Ainos Cafe is a pleasant waterfront café in Argostoli, the capital of Kefalonia, set along the town's main harbourfront promenade with views across the bay toward the De Bosset Bridge — the longest stone bridge in Greece — and the low hills of the Paliki peninsula beyond. The café takes its name from Mount Ainos, Kefalonia's highest mountain and a national park known for its ancient stands of Kefalonian fir. The setting is the primary draw: morning coffee here, watching the small fishing boats return to the harbour and the loggerhead sea turtles that famously feed in Argostoli Bay, is one of the more quietly rewarding experiences available to visitors in the Ionian Islands. The menu is café-standard and honestly priced: ellinikos kafes (traditional Greek coffee) made in the long-handle copper briki, freddo espresso and cappuccino, fresh-squeezed orange juice, and a selection of savoury pies — spanakopita with fresh spinach and feta, and tyropita with local sheep's milk cheese — that make a satisfying light breakfast. Cheese pies from a local supplier arrive still warm in the early morning. The café operates primarily as a morning establishment, with the greatest footfall before noon, though it remains open through the early afternoon for coffee service. The waterfront location means that loggerhead sea turtle sightings in the bay below are a genuine possibility during a morning visit.
