The walk from Agios Gordios to Pelekas connects one of Corfu's finest sandy beaches with one of its most celebrated hilltop villages, covering approximately 6 kilometres one way with around 230 metres of elevation gain and taking two and a half to three hours. The route passes through the archetypically Corfiot landscape of dense olive groves, narrow country lanes, and terraced hillsides that characterize the island's interior.
Agios Gordios Beach is a long crescent of pale sand on the island's west coast, roughly 15 kilometres south of Corfu Town. The walk begins from the northern end of the beach and immediately climbs through a mosaic of olive groves and traditional stone walls, following earthen tracks and quiet paved lanes between scattered farmhouses and holiday villas.
As the path gains height, views open westward over the beach and the dramatic sea-stack rock formation visible offshore. The olive groves give way to higher ground as the trail approaches Pelekas, a village perched on a ridge at around 230 metres with commanding views in all directions. The village retains an authentic atmosphere with narrow alleys, a central church, and several small tavernas.
The focal point of the walk is Kaiser's Throne — a natural rocky viewpoint just outside the village where Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany reportedly came to watch the sunset during his stays on Corfu in the early 20th century. The viewpoint looks west over the Ionian Sea and back down toward Agios Gordios, making it one of the finest vantage points on the island.
The return to Agios Gordios can be arranged by local bus (Pelekas is served by the green rural bus network) or by taxi. The trail surface is earthen track and quiet paved lane; no technical sections are encountered.
