Varkiza Beach

Varkiza Beach extends for nearly one kilometer along the southern Attic coast in the municipality of Vari-Voula-Vouliagmeni, approximately 30 kilometers south of central Athens, Greece. As the longest sandy beach in the Attica peninsula, Varkiza combines generous stretches of golden sand and calm, shallow turquoise waters with excellent water sports infrastructure. The beach is organized across multiple sections including a free public zone and several private beach clubs — the largest being the Varkiza Resort — offering sunbeds, parasols, restaurants, bars, and a full complement of water sports rental including jet ski, paddleboard, canoe, and pedalboat. The Varkiza seafront road runs parallel to the beach with cafes, ice cream shops, and restaurants accessible from the sand. The water deepens very gradually from shore, creating excellent conditions for children and inexperienced swimmers. In summer, the prevailing meltemi winds from the northwest develop by early afternoon, creating good conditions for stand-up paddleboarding and beginner windsurf schools that operate here. Varkiza is best reached by car (Athens Ring Road to the Varkiza exit) or by bus from Glyfada; the journey takes approximately 45–50 minutes from central Athens. The nearby Vouliagmeni Lake thermal resort is 6 kilometers north, making the two sites easily combined in a full day on the southern Riviera.
