Bostalsee

Bostalsee is the largest lake in Saarland, an artificial reservoir created near Nohfelden that has developed into the region's principal water-sports and beach destination. Sandy beach areas ring sections of the shoreline, and the lake supports sailing, windsurfing and stand-up paddleboarding, with the Saarland Yacht School operating instruction and rentals from Eckelhauser Bay. A paved path circles the entire lake, drawing cyclists and walkers for loops that range from short shoreline strolls to a full circuit of several hours. Anglers fish designated stretches of the lake under local permit rules, and several lakeside restaurants and kiosks serve visitors through the main season. A half-day visit is typical for those combining beach time with a swim or a rental boat outing, while a full lake circuit on foot or bike can extend a visit to most of a day. The managed beach areas charge a small entry fee and keep set hours, while the surrounding path and lake shore remain freely accessible at all times. Weekday mornings in summer see markedly lighter crowds than weekend afternoons, when the beaches and parking areas near Nohfelden fill with day-trippers from across the wider Saarland region. The lake is at its best for swimming and water sports from late May through early September, while the surrounding path remains a pleasant walking and cycling route year-round.
