Cycling the Mosel-Radweg (Trier to Koblenz)

The Mosel-Radweg is a long-distance riverside cycling route following the Moselle for roughly 230-270km between the Roman city of Trier and the Deutsches Eck in Koblenz, in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The route runs mostly flat along dedicated cycle paths and quiet riverside lanes, climbing only gently where the path detours around a vineyard slope or village, which makes it accessible to moderately fit cyclists rather than requiring technical mountain-biking skill. Riders typically cover the full distance over four to eight days, riding 30-50km daily sections between overnight stops in wine towns such as Bernkastel-Kues, Cochem and Zell; day-trip sections are equally popular. Standard touring bikes and e-bikes are both available to rent from local outfitters in Trier, Bernkastel-Kues, Cochem and Koblenz, with luggage-transfer services offered by several operators so riders are not required to carry panniers the full distance. A helmet, repair kit and rain layer are recommended, and riders should check tyre condition and gearing before setting off, since a mechanical issue can mean a long walk between villages on quieter stretches. The route is well signed throughout, and mobile signal is generally reliable enough to call a local bike shop or taxi for assistance if needed. The best riding season runs from April through October; spring and early autumn offer cooler temperatures and fewer crowds than busy midsummer weekends, when accommodation in the smaller wine villages can book out well ahead.
