Atelier is the three Michelin-starred flagship restaurant of Munich's Bayerischer Hof hotel, situated in the heart of Munich at Promenadeplatz. Chef Jan Hartwig has led the kitchen since 2014 and has maintained the restaurant's three-star status through cuisine that combines classical European technique with creative, seasonally driven cooking. The tasting menu runs to seven or more courses and draws on Bavarian ingredients — including Alpine herbs, locally farmed meat, and fresh lake fish — elevated to a level of precision rarely seen in Germany outside the top handful of establishments. Hartwig's style favours clean flavours and intelligent composition rather than theatrical flourishes; dishes are beautiful without being overwrought. The dining room is a dark, intimate space within the hotel's lower levels, designed with a gallery aesthetic — artwork changes seasonally, giving the room its name. Tables are generously spaced and the atmosphere is composed and quiet, suited to long, focused meals. Service is impeccable and warm, balancing formality with genuine hospitality. The wine programme is extensive, with particularly strong German and Austrian representation alongside Burgundy and Champagne. Reservations must be made months in advance; the restaurant operates Wednesday through Saturday evenings only. Dress code is smart, and formal attire is common among the clientele.
